About Zee
Zunnur is a nomadic movement artist who currently dances with contemporary dance company Hofesh Shechter Company (UK), facilitator, Pilates lover, enjoys writing especially about spirituality, consciousness, ancestry, lineage, culture, travel, nature and movement - Nomadic Malay. She sheds light on the existence, richness in wisdom and strength of Southeast Asia, re-writing the stories of her ancestors to honour them as she threads through this life doing what she does & being. She considers herself a “sponge” and enjoys learning – recently discovered her new found passion for graphic design and composing music. Zunnur is also an inter-arts collaborator and vows to serve the community – as a catalyst to empower women and young people, to gently nourish their inner seeds, enabling them to serve their highest self and potential. You will often find her having walks in nature, grooving anywhere she can and catching sunsets to be silent, as only in silence can you confront your honest truth and access clarity even within moments of transitions. She hopes that we walk this life kindly, listening, living and serving consciously, ultimately passing on a deep consciousness and awareness to the succeeding generations to come. She is a graduate from London Contemporary Dance School and a scholar of the National Arts Council Scholarship (Singapore) and Leverhulme Trust (UK). Zunnur started her movement training at a young age in Malay Dance with Sri Warisan Som Said Performing Arts Ltd under the tutelage of Cultural Medallion Mdm Som Said. She was part of the pioneer batch at School of the Arts Singapore and danced with T.H.E. (Second) Dance Company. In the UK, she was performing in several projects which includes dancing for Victor Quijada (director of RUBBERBANDance Canada), Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Ignition Dance Festival, Just Us Dance Theatre, East Wall and Shechter Underground to name a few. She is also an Associate Artist with Bhumi Collective who produces multidisciplinary, intercultural and transnational works around the lesser seen, the lesser heard and the lesser talked about. Whilst spending most of 2019 in her hometown Singapore, she collaborates and facilitates workshops with School of the Arts Singapore, Lasalle College of the Arts, T.H.E. Dance Company, P7:1SMA, M1 CONTACT Contemporary Dance Festival 2019 and having been invited to nurture her movement research of Groove & Gaze as invited choreographer for OFF STAGE 2019.
